Hello everyone! I am Stephanie from Parenting Chaos and I am honored to be guest posting here at The MaMade Diaries! I hope that you all enjoy this easy Christmas craft for kids!
One of my favorites parts of doing crafts with kids is watching their excitement as they explore their projects. This craft is one of those that offers a lot of sensory exploration.
With Christmas right around the corner I wanted to do a craft that was not only seasonal, but that could include the entire family and be used for years to come. Currently our favorite family holiday movie is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” – which lead to our “Max the Reindeer Dog” holiday ornaments!
- Magic Model Clay – you can see how to make your own here
- Googly Eyes
- Paint Brushes
Before I started this project with the kids I made up the Magic Model Clay. This is very easy to do and only takes a matter of minutes. After it was done and had some time to cool down we made the hand prints.
To make the hand print roll out the clay on top of something that is disposable, such as a paper towel. I like to use wax paper. Otherwise it will stick to the counter as it dries or will ruin the hand print if you attempt to move it before it dries.
Once the kids have given you a helping hand, let them have the rest of the clay to play with! The clay has the same consistency as playdough and is very easy to clean up.
It takes a couple of hours for the clay to air dry. Check in on it every now and then and keep and eye out for cracks. If you notice a crack apply a dab of water and smooth it out.
Some tips for decorating your Max, paint enough of the face while he is not yet completely dry so that you can apply the eyes. To do this apply a little bit of glue and gently press them in. This way they will be held in place with glue and set in the clay!
Also while it is still wet punch a hole in the top with whatever you have available.
I really hoped you guys enjoyed our Max the Reindeer Dog craft! Don’t forget to swing by my blog Parenting Chaos to check out other great kid activities!
